Back 4 Blood December update came out yesterday and it lets you play the game’s solo mode offline. As much as it may sound like a small change, lack of progression and the requirement of internet connection was seriously an issue. Especially after Left 4 Dead, people criticised this decision harshly.

With this latest patch, now we are able to enjoy the game in offline mode with 3 bots following us. Quality of AI can occasionally be a nuisance, but the bots rarely become a hindrance. We have to admit that sometimes they are actually even a lot more beneficial than the real players considering that they do not recklessly shoot around and scare the birds. But the offline mode aside, Turtle Rock Studios also brought some small amount of content and balancement with obvious bugfixes. We now have a fourth line of cards on the Supply Lines menu, called “Roving Merchants”. This new line has time-limited choices that also brings “burn cards” as a new card type.

Burn Cards are one-time cards that are consumed on use, and you are able to use them just like your usual card picks – between the rounds. Also we now have some skins for Christmas that are unlockable with in-game currency, meaning the Supply Points you earn when you complete a round successfully. Speaking of cards, many cards have received balancement changes, especially speed cards are nerfed and combat cards are both buffed and reworked. This opens up new possibilities with decks.

As much as many players are still not really satisfied with the game and the update, we should also remember that it is a long progress and Turtle Rock Studios are determined on the track. They also share a Trello board to let players know what are they working on and how is the progress going. Back 4 Blood is still known to receive new in-game content like weapons and storyline, so it is early to come to a conclusion with the game’s final state.
