Last night, Blizzard confirmed that their MOBA game Heroes of the Storm is being taken to permanent maintenance mode. This means that the game is not going to receive major updates anymore except some bugfixes. Seasonal rolls and hero rotations will be there, servers will stay open but that will be the end of it. Game is actually announced “dead” with this news.
A patch will arrive next week to grant all players Epic Arcane Lizard as a token of appreciation from Blizzard. This is not actually quite surprising as the esports branch was abandoned already, and latest hero Hogger was released back in December 2020. Except few reworks and balancement, there was not a new content in the game since months.
Despite all that, Heroes of the Storm kept a dedicated community that stays loyal and live, even organizing its own esports tournaments continuously.
