There has been a global chip shortage going on and one of the areas that it has affected is the game industry, especially the game consoles. With the release of next generation game consoles, the problem has come to surface. We have been hearing news about the shortage ending soon but Toshiba came up with totally different news.

Toshiba’s director in charge of semiconductors Takeshi Kamebuchi spoke to Bloomberg and said that they expect this chip shortage to continue through at least September 2022.

“The supply of chips will remain very tight until at least September next year. In some cases, we may find some customers not being fully served until 2023.”

“We consider which customer faces the most severe situation, such as the risk of the whole production line halting or the business getting obliterated without the supply of chips. Game console makers are among the customers making the strongest demands and Iā€™m sincerely sorry for their frustration as none of them have a 100% satisfaction.”
