There are many terms like “skill-based matchmaking (SBMM),” “reverse boosting” and “Kill/Death (K/D) Ratio” used among a large variety of competitive titles, and now it’s surely not a surprise that people are wondering if the same system is being used in Halo Infinite.

Long story short, Halo Infinite’s free-to-play multiplayer does indeed use SBMM. This was confirmed by 343 Industries’ initial Multiplayer Reveal blog post back in July.

According to the blog post, 343 explained that “With new training options, bots to spar against, skill-based-matchmaking, and improved systems that deliver better communication of key info to players during a match, we’re excited to welcome Spartans of all skill levels and help you battle your way to the top each season.

While SBMM baseically improve game balance and quality by properly placing players into lobbies according to their evaluated skill levels, many don’t believe that it actually works.
