Dwarf Fortress is some sort of “underground” gem among tons of games. Originally built around 16 years ago, the game was first made with ASCII. As much as it is truly and old-tech, ASCII always had its own unique style for anything and things that are created with it always seemed admirable. Dwarf Fortress was one of them.

The game came for Steam yesterday, with a renewed version. Publisher Kitfox Games was expecting around 160000 copies to be sold in two months. Considering that the game had been free for all those years, the economist who made the prediction that it could be less than interesting for many people. For their surprise, Dwarf Fortress surpassed that number under 24 hours.

Apparently there was a hidden fanbase who were waiting for it since all those years, and now they are unleashed. What’s more funny is that the most popular Steam thread of the game began with one surprised fan asking if people were waiting for an opportunity to pay $30 despite playing for free all those years, followed by hundred pages of people saying “Yes”. This is truly an unbelieveable moment in gaming.
