Yesterday, a surprise announcement came from Google as they confirmed the upcoming shutdown of Stadia next year. While many people expected it since a long time, it is still shocking to hear that the entire service will be gone.
Besides the shutdown news itself, the most critical piece of information there was that Google will be refunding all Stadia hardware and game-related purchases made through the Stadia Store. This is a very respectable move by Google. The service will stay available until 18th of January, 2023.
Cloud gaming is still a tough nut to crack as technology is actually able to make it happen but not everyone in the world has easy access to this technology due to financial reasons and sometimes due to infrastructural reasons of the location they live in. Therefore, the world will have to wait for a while to see cloud gaming at its best.
After this shutdown, a lot of Stadia developers will be moving on with their careers in other companies and projects.
