The Hugo Awards is an annual literary award that recognizes the best works in science fiction and fantasy of the previous year. It was named after Hugo Gernsback, the founder of science fiction magazine Amazing Stories. The first awards were handed out in 1953 and then every year since 1955.

Hugo Awards 2021 brought many great titles to receive well-earned rewards, and the titles nominated were absolutely best of the best. Games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Spiritfarer, Final Fantasy VII Remake, The Last of Us: Part II, and Blaseball made their runs towards numerous awards.

The catch is though, it was announced back in November 2020 that there would be a Best Video Game category to be included in the 2021 Hugo Awards. This means that whoever got this one will be the first ever to do so. While it is very very hard to name one single game for this award, one of them had to grab it in the end. And that one became Hades.

In Hades, players take on the role of the immortal Prince of the Underworld wielding the powers and mythic weapons from Olympus itself. Game stands out especially for its replayability aspect and the high-octane adrenaline rush that does not stop until you die or triumph. Developers also brought along some fun features that compliment this replayability, for example the guardian bosses remember you in your subsequent runs and dialogues between characters have some fun lines regarding this small detail.
