Multiplayer first-person shooter video game Splitgate’s developer 1047 Games studio became swiftly popular after its release. It broke Steam records until now and the game’s popularity continues to grow.

1047’s co-founder and CEO Ian Proulx spoke to TechCrunch and talked about their achievements and plans for the future. He mentioned the success they have won comes from the arena shooter genre. He says “People grew up playing these games, and the reason the market is dead is not because they stopped loving them. Quake Arena is great, but it’s extremely difficult. No 12-year-old Fortnite kid is going to play it. We really do fill this void.”

The game that described as “Halo Meets Portal” had difficulty finding investors but they managed to overcome this problem. After the big hit of the game, studio got to receive huge amount of investments. They managed to go from a tiny team with a tiny budget to a successful studio that could challenge bigger studios.

Proulx also says they are planning to do more and improve themselves in long term. “We’re focusing on the long term. We don’t need to be Fortnite tomorrow, but now it really is about building the next Riot Games, the next big games business.”
