The new story for NieR Reincarnation by Square Enix, called “Story of Sun and Moon”, will coming up this fall in Japan. It will be a story about two students in modern-day Tokyo. This update will have a weight on new areas with industrial design. Tokyo Game Show 2021 presentation gave us some highly expected hints to have a clue about what is to come. Currently there is no release date officially confirmed.
This new story will not be using the usual NieR formula. Focus will be on significantly modern characters from a realistic Tokyo. We are seeing two high school students waking up in a cage, not remembering how they got there. Also it is mentioned that there will be an initial choice of character to play. Eventually though, players will experience both characters.
There are various scenes seen in the video like school, streets and the cage. It is also quite notable that the new areas will have more “metallic” tones.
NieR Reincarnation recently passed 15 million global downloads, it celebrated the milestone with a free summoning event and a NieR Replicant collaboration event is currently underway until October 8, 2021. NieR Reincarnation is currently available to play on mobile devices. The new story is planned to release in Japan sometime in Fall 2021.
