Sam Maggs, the Contractor of Sledgehammer Games, shared her thoughts about Vanguard’s characters being dubbed as the franchise’s mascots lately on New York Comic Con panel.

Maggs said “How do we make the iconic CoD characters? You do not really have that in Call of Duty right now. You know, when you think about a game like Halo, you think of Master Chief, but when you think of CoD, there really is not a standout character.”

Tochi Onyebuchi also agreed that the Call of Duty franchise needs flagship characters for possible Vanguard sequels. Maggs continued with “We want to make Vanguard 2 and Vanguard 3, we have two more stories that we rally want to tell with these characters.”

Onyebuchi then told the audience that this information was only revealed at NYCC. They mentioned that they never said it anywhere before.

Call of Duty: Vanguard brings up the stories of five heroes Lucas Riggs, Wade Jackson, Polina Petrova, and Arthur Kingsley. Together, they form an international squad to eliminate the Axis powers during the end of World War 2.

About the future plans for those characters, Maggs said “We are hoping that if people love them as much as we do, that we get to continue to tell the story of these people. Make them sort of like figureheads for this era of CoD, basically.”
