Call of Duty lost 50 million players in just one year

According to the report from Activision, Warzone players are simply running away from the game at an alarming rate. Throughout 2021 and during early 2022, the game lost an unbelieveable amount of 50 million players. There was a very immense cheating problem, even a “plague”, which caused a lot of players to lose their appetite.

Call of Duty series enjoyed the popularity from Warzone for quite a while though, and the total number of players in entire series hit 150 million mark. After the downfall of Warzone began, this number went down very quickly. Activision indicated the lower-than-expected sales for Vanguard and insufficient engagement in Warzone as the primary reason for this loss.

Despite the huge numbers, this was not a surprise for many players at all. Cheating, balancement, lack of good content added up to prepare the ground for this change throughout 2021.
