Embraceer Group intends to make Deus Ex and Tomb Raider games

Embracer Group recently acquired Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal, therefore having the ownership of Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, and Thief. While many titles and franchises are seeing stagnations after changing hands, but this might not be the case with Embracer Group according to the latest news.

Embracer Group’s 2021-22 fiscal year report says “After the end of the quarter, we further strengthened our development capabilities and IP-portfolio by entering into an agreement to acquire Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal, including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief and Legacy of Kain and other IPs. The announcement got an overwhelming and positive response. We see a great potential, not only in sequels, but also in remakes, remasters, spinoffs as well as transmedia projects across the Group. We expect the transaction to close in the July-September period.”

Tomb Raider got a lot of attention lately with Crystal Dynamic restarting the series, but even those games were somewhat sacrificed in favor of the Avengers live service game.

In the meanwhile, Deus Ex prequel series by Eidos Montreal has been dormant since Mankind Divided as the game unfortunately failed to meet sales expectations of Square Enix. Last but not least, Looking Glass Studios’ Thief series was also restarted in 2014 by Eidos Montreal but has not been revisited since. If it was not for the fan works, series would even be considered dead by now.
