John Romero is one of the most influential FPS developers of all times, hands down. Making games like Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake simply means writing your name into history. His late work may not be that legendary, but he is far from giving up on his efforts. Currently he is still pursuing an undisclosed FPS game in his studio Romero Games.
They are at the stage of filling in multiple positions for the project, and only information is that they are working on a new FPS which will use Unreal Engine 5. With mastery of Romero and young talents to follow his wisdom, there may always be great surprises in the horizon.
Late retro shooters like DUSK, Amid Evil, Ion Fury and many more are bringing back the oldschool FPS craze people had in 90s, and with this rebound we might see a great attempt from Romero. This new project could be anything and everything, but let’s keep waiting for new details for now. After all, we all remember Daikatana as a milestone of failure. Romero also acknowledged it years later, and now he may be about to bring us some great work to remember.
