According to the recent reports, Microsoft is preparing to lay off a serious number of employees during upcoming days. The number of layoffs might find 10000 or even further, as the expectations are cutting the workforce by 5 percent. Reason for this decision is mentioned as “slowing global economy”.
This decision is expected to be announced before the earnings call on 24th of January. If this happens, around 11000 employees will lose their jobs. A Wall Street analyst says that this number could be even higher.
Microsoft recently ditched its “fixed paid time off” policy to replace it with unlimited holidays. While this sounds employee-friendly at first, a lot of people claim that this was a move that aims to avoid paying for unused paid time off.
Considering that the Activision acquisition deal is still in progress, this news might bring up further objections that must be settled before the deal proceeds. The latest pack of objections is coming from EU, as they have stated that they want to put forth a statement of objections before April 11.
