Eric Barone, the creator of Stardew Valley, revealed a few hints about a possible next game. It is not a sequel or anything related to farming, but still a similar one nonetheless. Announcement of this mysterious title is said to be “fairly soon”. This also means that since focus is not Stardew Valley at the moment, any update to the game is highly rare to come by from now on.
After the Stardew Valley Cup yesterday, Eric Barone answered some questions from the fans. People asked about new game as it was actually first announced in 2018, but Barone gave only a few details about it.
What is currently known is that game will be another kind of pixel-art, and also with a top-down perspective similar to Stardew Valley. But gameplay will not be about farming despite having some similarities with Stardew Valley. It will be “something different”.
Barone mentioned that the official announcement will arrive “fairly soon”, so people are already looking forward to seeing upcoming weeks to have any news about it. But one rumor was totally denied, which is about “Harry Potter-meets-Stardew Valley” game Witchbrook. Barone said he is not related with such a project, and his game will not be about magic schools.
Last but not least, there will not be a Stardew Valley 1.6 update or a whole new Stardew Valley 2 at this point. He clearly told viewers that his focus is currently on this next game.
