Just a couple months ago, Embracer Group acquired a few Square Enix studios alongside some IPs. The deal comprised Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montreal and Square Enix Montreal. In the news yesterday, it was announced that Square Enix Montreal is being shut down.
This studio was responsible for Hitman Go, Lara Croft Go and Deus Ex Go. In the time of acquisition, studio had renamed itself Onoma. The Go series was actually quite liked by players. But Embracer Group decided to focus on PC and console games, hence shutting down the mobile game departments.
Director of Embracer’s business group CDE Entertainment, Phil Rogers said that it was a difficult decision to take. As for the employees, company is intending to transfer them to other studios responsible of PC and console games.
