Nightdive is the studio which created the recent Quake Remastered, bringing back the legend for new and modern devices. After decades, the classic FPS received 4K and widescreen resolution support, enhanced models, dynamic and colored lighting, anti-aliasing, depth of field, and some new levels. The final product was also received with good reactions mostly, so Nightdive now wants another shot.
This time, they are intending to do the same for another legendary FPS game Unreal. Unreal also paved the way for today’s games back in 90s. Especially the first Unreal and the Unreal Tournament ’99 were the games which are still revered as legendary titles.
According to a tweet by Nightdive CEO Stephen Kick, Cliff Bleszinski contacted Epic CEO Tim Sweeney on Nightdive’s behalf following the Quake remaster. Bleszinski, the co-designer of 1998’s Unreal, suggested that Unreal deserved a similar remaster. This might be the moment that we have been waiting, as the first Unreal had a great single player campaign. The atmosphere, graphics, weapon variety, sounds and successful AI that led the hostile race Skaarj to battle were all incredible for the conditions we had back then.
Nightdive is currently working on a System Shock remaster, and it was said to be near completion a couple months ago.
