An unreleased SimCopter 64 build surfaced over 25 years later

This one is a very interesting surprise, as all of a sudden there was a copy of a scrapped N64 game called SimCopter 64 has surfaced online. People who remember Maxis and the Sim series will immediately remember the name.

Last week, video game historian Damiano Gerli shared the news on Twitter. According to his tweet, a playable version of SimCopter 64 for the N64 had been unearthed. The game allows you to pilot a helicopter around a city, including your own SimCity 2000 maps. This was a huge thing for back then. Game was released by Maxis in 1996.

Strangely, this demo of SimCopter 64 somehow survived this long. Only footage of the game was known to be shown back in E3 1997. Person who found this demo, a Reddit user named a707northbayer, said that he received this copy from “someone who used to work in the games industry in Northern California”. This sounds like that the person might be one of the developers of SimCopter 64.
