A regular event for Path of Exile fans every three months, the new league is announced with the surprises it holds. This time, we are saying goodbye to Archnemesis league and welcoming Sentinel as the new one. A lot of content, improvement, fixes and cosmetics are coming our way as usual.
Grinding Gear Games is actually true to its name in this regard, as they have been working like clockwork when it comes to creating, releasing and renewing its content throughout Path of Exile for almost 10 years. Every 3 months they are bringing up a new content league with tons of changes, yet they never compromised their quality while doing so. They never had to change their ways to “earn more”, and this commands a huge respect among fans. For a free-to-play title, this is absolutely a stunning success.
This time we are seeing a different way of modification, thanks to the “Sentinels”. Sentinels are ancient constructs that work like your “pets” rather than being your direct enemy to fight, yet they are still your enemies in a way as they are empowering your enemies on your command in order to increase the risk-reward multiplier. There are three different Sentinel types with a Sentinel board that allows you to “program” their behaviour in customizable ways. They will work like currency drops, as you can find Sentinels on your way to use. Once depleted, you can also use them in the Recombinator to create a totally new one. Recombinators will also work on equippable items like armors, which allow you to occasionally get some exclusive modifiers which are not accessible otherwise.
Besides the Sentinels, there are many changes coming. It would not be a true Path of Exile league without them anyway, and here we stand saying goodbye to usual old monster modifier mechanics as a starter. Apparently the Archnemesis league was an experiment for the new system they wanted to implement, and now we are going to enjoy easier-to-read modifier list on Rare monsters. Moving on, there are new Atlas Keystone Passives added to the game which will help in many various ways to alter and customize your endgame experience. This is focused on customization of current content rather than making changes to it or bringing new content. Speaking of endgame, now we have Uber variations of Pinnacle Boss fights. Those fights are only meant for the strongest characters, so beware.
Last but not least, there are some news for controller support. Controller support has finally left Beta, meaning Path of Exile is now considered controller friendly, with support added for DualShock 4 Controllers, and the game will also be fully playable on the Steam Deck.
