PUBG: Battlegrounds switched to free-to-play model some time ago, and no one knew how it would impact the future of the game, especially in financial terms. But as revealed by developer Krafton’s latest earnings report published last Friday, game is actually earning much more than before.
According to the report, sales were up 61 percent year over year to $82.3 million on PC. On console side, the sales increased even more, a solid 124 percent from the previous quarter and 274 percent year over year. Krafton did not provide any specific details about the sums of those sales though. The game almost tripled its average monthly active users from Q4 2021.
PUBG: Battlegrounds was a paid game back in 2017 when it launched, but in recent years there were more battle royale games that earned a solid amount on free-to-play model. Examples are Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone and Apex Legends. In that regard, the decision for Krafton was probably not that difficult.
