Among all the possible comments about Microsoft’s groundbreaking move, probably Sony’s words were the most sought out. Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Sony stated that they are expecting Microsoft to keep Activision games in their current multiplatform state as per their ongoing contracts.
Of course it would not be great news for players who are using Sony’s products and platforms, namely PlayStation since all of a sudden they would be out of the game – literally.
Phil Spencer also provided a statement on the same issue.
“I’ll just say to players out there who are playing Activision Blizzard games on Sony’s platform: It’s not our intent to pull communities away from that platform and we remained committed to that.”, Spencer said. As much as things seem calm on PlayStation side for now, conditions of those aforementioned deals are the actual question here.
Logically, games that are currently available on PlayStation are expected to stay that way for an indefinite amount of time – for example, until the game is entirely shut down once it completes its lifespan. But the upcoming projects in following years may not be that easy to talk about as there is still a period of planning and management waiting for the development teams. Even if the games that were in active development (meaning they already have some certain deals ongoing with the progress) by the time Microsoft made its move for the purchase will still stay with Sony’s community too, what about the titles that are yet to come alive in future?
Questions are many, and it is safe to say that time will tell.
