The Coalition is working on new Xbox IP

Reports have been circling for a few months now, and at this point that The Coalition, which is the studio behind Xbox’s Gears of War franchise, is quietly working on an entirely new IP. While The Coalition itself didn’t confirm anything, because of the nature of their job, it looks as though a recent leak from one developer at the company might have spilled this surprise a bit earlier than expected.

This leak is spotted by user Klobrille over on Twitter, the LinkedIn profile page for one of the studio members at The Coalition mentions its work on a new IP. And this employee, whose name is Pedro Camacho D’Andrea, is said to be a level designer on the project. There’s not much is revealed from Camacho D’Andrea’s profile about what this game might entail, but they are said to have been working on the game since February of this year, for almost 6 months.

What makes this leak even more interesting is its timing. The Coalition has already confirmed that later this month, there will be a new presentation at Game Developers Conference (GDC) to show off some work that the studio has done in Unreal Engine 5. And with that, the developer said there will also be a new tech demo that shows the capabilities of this game engine. And while there’s no guarantee that this demo will be anything more than just that, perhaps there is a chance that this will be our first look at the new IP in action.

Regardless of what ends up happening at GDC,  this leak definitely seems to verify many of the previous reports that’s been lurking about. If you’re the one who wants to see The Coalition’s work on Gears 6 any time soon, it looks like they’ll be making a pit stop before eventually working on that project down the road. And this might be good with new technologies.
