Amazon has a new tool called Alexa Game Control which will allow players to use their voice in order to perform certain actions in video games. The technology is relatively new, and it will only be used in Xbox and PC.
First game that will use this technology will be Dead Island 2, which was revealed last night in Gamescom Opening Night Live event. With Alexa Game Control, you will be able to interact with NPCs or switch weapons by using your voice. There will not be a wake word needed, and it will work with any microphone or headset connected.
Feature will work only online, but it will not prevent you from playing offline. Besides, you will not need an Amazon Prime membership to use Alexa Game Control. An Amazon account will suffice. Examples of use for this technology will be accessing in-game navigation by asking for the location of certain objects, or “manipulate zombie hordes”. Yes, taunting them.
While the initial region and language to access to this technology will be limited to North America, and English, Amazon promised that it will be expanded in future. Also, they said that Xbox and PC exclusivity is only there for now, and it will change in future when it is possible.
