A few days ago, developer Techland shared an image that boasted the 500-hours length of playtime if players wanted to complete literally everything in the game. This immediately brought along a controversy on social media though. Many players actually expressed their opinions about how they did not really want to invest that much time to complete a game. Of course it was not mostly about the playtime of a true 100% completion, but more like a sum of main quests, side quests and some trivial stuff added for extra playtime.
Yesterday, Techland shared another image that cleared up the confusion about playtime. In that image, they mentioned very precisely that the main quest alone will take 20 hours of playtime, and if you would like to add all side quests, it would bring the number to a total of 80 hours of playtime. If you want to go for a full 100%, then you would have to afford 500 hours of dropkicking zombies straight away.
The thing was that people actually did not have the time for just one game even if it was a great one. Honestly we also do not really think that it would be not true, since there are now countless games to play and the list continuously gets longer every day with many more new games coming out.
This carnage of voices quickly became an interesting and crucial example of how attitudes are changing in the player base, and proof that many people no longer consider more to always be better. Still, there will surely be some fans who will do their best to achieve that 100%, especially after this sensational discussion sparked out.
Now people consider the investment of time besides financial investment when it comes to taking a game into their list. This topic will definitely be remembered by developers in future as a remark and a guideline of how long their games should actually be.
