Developer team of Sniper Elite 5, Rebellion, published a cinematic trailer for their game and shared new details about the new multiplayer mode that lets players invade other players’ games to try to take them out for PvP action.
This new mode is titled as “Invasion.” Players will become an Axis sniper and can drop into other players’ campaigns to invade and kill them, or they’ll try it at least. Description says: “The invading Axis Sniper will have the sole aim to eliminate the player while the Allied Sniper will gain an extra objective: Take out the invader.” That sounds like Deathloop’s PvP gameplay.
Invasion mode is going to be active in co-op play. Which means multiple players can work together to take out the Axis sniper before he achieved his goal. Allied snipers who take out the Axis snipers will get a bonus but if Axis snipers successfully take down their targets, they get bigger bonuses, including weapons, items, and skins.
Chris Kingsley from Rebellion said; “A human controlled invader can act in ways that are so diverse and unpredictable, which adds to the challenge and ramps up the tension even further. The player will be informed that an invading Axis Sniper has joined their game and from that point on it becomes an extremely intense, high stakes game of cat and mouse.” in a statement.
Axis sniper will get help from AI soldiers to find Allied sniper. The Axis player can use AI soldiers to help them to find the Allied sniper by tagging the AI character with “Eagle Eyes.” This in turn shows the Axis sniper the last known location of the human Allied sniper on their map. The Axis player can also give orders to AI soldiers to “Stay Sharp,” which buffs their awareness readings.
Allied snipers got some new mechanics too. They can tap into “invasion phones” on the map to see the last location of the invading Axis sniper. The phones can be booby trapped, and using them too many times will reveal their own location to the Axis sniper.
This invasion mode will be optional and you can turn it off from options if you don’t want to get invaded. But just having it turned on gives you increased XP payouts even if you don’t get invaded.
Sniper Elite 5 launches later this year on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game is even included with Xbox Game Pass on day one.
