During the latest Steam Deck video released by Valve, it was confirmed that now we were able to order a Steam Deck without reservation required. Besides these good news, Valve also confirmed the arrival of Steam Dock and OS improvements. But there was something interesting for careful eyes.
A well-known Twitter account Nibellion quickly noticed that the demonstration video has the icon of Yuzu, the Nintendo Switch emulator, on Steam Deck’s screen. After Nibellion shared this small detail, people took notice and it eventually pushed Valve to pull the video back to private status.
Valve already told that Steam Deck is actually a PC, and open for customization so this is not a “secret” that one could work emulators or other operating systems on the device. But they did not directly promote the device with certain softwares, especially with the ones that are not liked by other companies. In case you did not know, Nintendo is not that happy about the existence of Yuzu.
Back when the Steam Deck was first released, Nintendo took notice that their games were being run on the handheld device and they were quick to send DMCA takedowns to all videos that had such content. While Valve and Nintendo are in good terms in general, this move via official channels was not the best indeed.
