Steam Deck continues to receive some great updates, and this time we are welcoming the SteamOS 3.2 version with a solid feature. This feature allows us to adjust Steam Deck’s refresh rate anytime, anywhere.
Default refresh rate for the device is 60Hz, which is totally okay for a reasonable performance on a handheld device. But some players may want to adjust it for various reasons, especially for saving battery life. This update allows us to adjust the refresh rate to values like 40, 20 or 10Hz. This might help players who are not playing a fast-paced game saving their batteries especially on long trips. If a long battery life is not the most important thing for such occasions, I do not know what is.
This setting is also going to be working together with per-game performance settings, bringing us an even easier and smoother way to adjust the performance of Steam Deck.
Another nice addition coming with SteamOS 3.2 update is the fan noise reduction. This is a bit vague though, as Valve gives us the chance to adjust the fan through an OS controlled curve. While Valve claims that it is much quieter, users can switch it back to the bios controlled state in settings.
Last but not least, Remote Play Together feature is now stable on the device. If the game you are playing allows this feature, both you and your friends can join each others’ games.
