Many games have their key arts take the opportunity to present their awards and review scores to inspire attraction in players. This is a very clear and understandable step of marketing the game. But Steam lately brought this matter to attention.
It is one thing if players love it or hate it, but according to Steam, some games are sneaking in some suspect behavior like using some non-existent awards’ logos or review scores from websites that are not fully reliable. Due to this reason, Steam came up with a new rule.
Besides the trust factor, Valve also mentions that those logos, scores and discount adverts are actually filling up too much space in the images and cause game logos to be too small. Another matter is that English language is not the absolute majority for the community and this simply leaves many people out of the subject.
As a result, Steam came up with this new ruling which will take effect as of September 1st. Any sorts of reviews, awards and discounts will be banned from those images. Additionally, any content that promotes a “different product” like a sequel or any miscellaneous text will be also banned from such use. There will be other ways to do this, and Valve highly encourages developers to do so.
