A recently spotted patent filing indicates that Electronic Arts is working on a new method to implement on their anti-cheat system. According to this patent, every fifth move of a cheating player will be ignored on average.

Cheating is a very rampant problem in gaming since years, especially the competitive gaming scene is constantly coming under pressure in this case. Big companies like Electronic Arts are also seeing the consequences of cheaters ruining their games, and they are always in a battle against them. Therefore, anti-cheat systems are evolving in order to tackle the cheaters in a more efficient and successful way.

Speaking of Electronic Arts, most famous games from the publisher that also had trouble due to cheaters were Battlefield series and Apex Legends. People are always asking for stronger methods to prevent cheating as it ruins the game for everyone. Aforementioned patent filed by EA in January 2022 shows a new and interesting method is in works. This method will be able to put cheaters at a disadvantage by imposing several penalties, one of which is to ignore 20% of their button presses. Most important point of this method is that it actually allows legitimate players to defeat cheaters.

The moves to be disregarded are chosen via various patterns, making it almost impossible to track the next action to be dropped beforehand. This new system is also said to be able to detect if a player account is linked with another account that has previously been caught cheating. So players will not be able to just open a new account and keep ruining the game.
