Microsoft has some plans to create a “next generation game store” for mobile games, and the plans were mentioned in the filing published recently by Competition and Markets Authority in UK. The said unit is currently scrutinizing the company for the acquisition and merging process.
This next generation game store is going to be operating on a wide range of mobile devices, and will contain a lot of mobile titles alongside the Activision Blizzard’s mobile games. Xbox is also seeking to scale the Xbox Store to mobile platforms, bringing existing players of Activision Blizzard to a new Xbox Mobile Platform.
This move seems to be a planned one against Google Play Store and App Store. These two are sharing the biggest slices from the mobile game market, and Microsoft clearly wants part in it. Microsoft is totally aware of the fact that such a success will require a huge change in consumer behaviour as players are already settled down in the former two. They will have to do something big in order to attract players.
Nowadays, a lot of companies are steering towards the mobile game market and it is no surprise. One and a half billion people play games on mobile phones, so it is surely possible to make profits unless one does a lot of mistakes.
