Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is one of the biggest hits of 2022, and Activision seems to have hit the jackpot with this release. In their Q3 financial report, the company said that Modern Warfare 2 sales doubled the other strong titles in the series, reaching to $1B. This success is attributed to having a Steam release.

It is known that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the first release on Steam since 5 years. Black Ops 4 and the subsequent games in the series were not sold on Steam. People were initially suspicious that Modern Warfare 2 was going to be a game that simply directs you to the original Battle.net launcher when installed on Steam, but thankfully it did not happen. Steam lets you play the game when you hit play button.

As much as it might seem like Activision is sharing the wealth with Valve, the choice turned out to be much more fruitful according to the statistics. The franchise records are being broken one by one since the release and both parties are enjoying the huge success.
