Half-Life is undoubtedly one of the most legendary series of the gaming world. Revolutionized an entire genre overnight, it still has a throne in hearts of many. After years of silence and rumors, the series took a few steps with the VR technology and brought Half-Life: Alyx. For those who are waiting Half-Life 3, well… Internet has a lot of memes and jokes to understand the situation.

While Half-Life preserves its mystic air with its loose ends in the story, there are some other attempts to carry the flag of this legend. Most notable one was the late remake called Black Mesa, which is an absolutely incredible game to relive the memories in a much more realistic view. Other than that, countless mods and remakes are still around. But there was one specific project from Arkane Studios called Ravenholm, which was sadly cancelled.

Today, a new footage from Ravenholm emerged.

The footage released by Noclip shows a very solid portion of the game, demonstrating some new mechanics and systems which are built around manipulating the electricity and survival in the zombie chaos. Father Grigori from Half-Life 2, the mad priest of Ravenholm, is rolling with the player throughout the story. He is revealed to have built a system and some technological contraptions in the city that ensures his survival. He even built a “serum” that extracts the toxins from headcrabs and injects it in order to “immunize” himself manually over time.

Other than that, we are able to melee the zombies, use metal objects and a nail gun to manipulate electricity and get a “charger gun” in order to enjoy a portable weaponized battery. Our HEV suit is also able to temporarily protect us from some electricity, so we are able to take some risks during tough moments. There are some new foes like zombie apes created by the experiments. They are fast, dangerous but very sensitive to light.

In the end, the project was cancelled years ago and it is sad to miss such a nice game with potential after years of waiting for a new game. Apparently we will have to accept the fact that there will not be a Half-Life 3.
