Overwatch and Modern Warfare 2 had a lot of chaos around the mobile phone requirement system, especially with the restriction of prepaid phones. A lot of players stood against the decision, and finally both games decided to drop the restriction.
2FA system is used by a lot of big games, and it is totally okay for people to have some extra layer of security within their reach. Problem was that the prepaid phone numbers are actually quite flexible and useful so many people are using them. Another problem was that some people actually had their prepaid phone numbers working with the game so people got even more furious.
After a recent update that loosened the restrictions for certain groups such as console players, now both games are dropping it for good. This will allow many more players to play both games without such hassle.
