Recent couple of days were quite thrilling for the Overwatch fans, as the Overwatch 2 PvP beta phase was live. Blizzard arrange a Twitch Drops campaign for providing access to people who watched the streams of certain streamers. Expectedly, viewing numbers were way out of the roof.

Total number of viewers in entire Overwatch 2 category was above 1.5 million. This is a new record for the entire franchise. Before this event, the record for entire Overwatch franchise was 439,152 people watching, which happened on the day of the Overwatch League’s inaugural season in January 2018. This shows how much people wanted to see the new game.

This also brings another claim to the table, “Overwatch is a dead game”. If this many people were watching the beta streams, even if for the drops, is it possible to call a game “dead”? We do not think so. Maybe dormant, but surely not dead.
