Some data coming from NPD Group on Friday claims that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 surpassed Elden Ring in the race of best-selling game of 2022 in the US.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 already topped the October chart just in two days as it was released in 28th of October and NPD Group collects the data between 2-29 of October. In November, the difference was immediately clear against new games such as God of War: Ragnarok, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and Sonic Frontiers.
According to Activision, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the fastest-selling entry in the entire series, stacking $1B in just 10 days. The record before this game was held by Black Ops 2 in 2012, which took 15 days to reach the same milestone.
There is also another interesting side data which could be meaningful with the success mentioned above. NPD Group mentions that US console sales in November 2022 were up 45% compared to November 2021. This is caused by PlayStation 5 availability increasing in recent months. A lot of players who also would not probably buy the game without having a high-end console are now driving the statistics with massive difference.
