Cyberpunk 2077 is now announced to receive a Game of the Year Edition after the release of its expansion Phantom Liberty. According to the words of Adam Kicinski, this GOTY Edition will be released in 2023. Kicinski said that it is not that surprising, as the process was actually the same for The Witcher 3 too. After both expansions, The Witcher 3 also received a GOTY Edition so he says the same can be expected now too.
There is a “slight” change in the notion of “GOTY Edition” though, as it used to be a real “Game Of The Year” thing back in early 2000s. Now it is just a fancy name for a release that covers the entire game content. A lot of games that do not have anything to do with being GOTY are now releasing those editions.
But let’s be real about one thing, Cyberpunk 2077 really came back after that launch period. With some accurate patches and discounted price, they managed to bring back the positive scores from players. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime also gave it a strong push. Phantom Liberty is expected to be a successful expansion now, and then we will be waiting for Project Orion probably for a few years.
