Tencent is obviously one of the biggest companies in gaming industry with lots of studios and developers in its portfolio while another batch of them are also being invested majorly by them. With latest news, they also announced that they acquired Turtle Rock Studios too. The announcement also mentions that the progress of Back 4 Blood will stay independent of this acquisition.
Only this year, Tencent has already acquired a serious number of studios. The list includes Don’t Starve and Griftlands developer Klei Entertainment; Spec Ops: The Line and The Cycle developer Yager; Sumo Group, home to Sumo Digital, developer of Sackboy: A Big Adventure and Hood: Outlaws and Legends; Warhammer: Vermintide developer Fatshark; Wake Up Interactive, parent company of Ninjala developer Soleil and Devil’s Third developer Valhalla Game Studios.
List of investments is also not short either. Dontnod Entertainment, Bohemia Interactive, Remedy Entertainment, Bloober Team, and Kadokawa are the companies that received investments from Tencent. As much as the competition and growth is incredible around Tencent, this also brings a harder regulation ground for the company as China is very scrutinizing in its efforts.
