Doom 4 was actually a thing a decade ago, but the game unmistakably had a feeling like Call of Duty. The 2016 reboot was quite successful and different than what was planned for Doom 4, so it was probably a good choice. Today, as part of a “game preservation mission”, Noclip released a gameplay trailer for this abandoned project.
As much as the trailer shows a nice part of the game, it is no doubt that 2016 version of Doom was indeed a superior product. It was fully loyal to what Doom should be about: Hellish environments, frenetic combat, and brutality of Doom Slayer with no limits. Luckily, Bethesda made the right choice there.
This release is not the first such rare piece from Noclip, as they previously shared a cancelled Half-Life spinoff by Arkane, called “Ravenholm”.
