A new AAA game studio named Jar of Sparks is founded by Jerry Hook. Hook is known for his work in 343 Industries, and also for being an Xbox Live founding veteran. He has decades of experience in the industry, so expectations are clearly high.
Jar of Sparks describes its goal to “create a new generation of narrative-driven action games in a new world”. Besides Jerry Hook, there are remarkable names among the founding members such as Paul Crocker (Batman: Arkham trilogy), Greg Stone (Halo Wars 2, Halo Infinite, Doom 2016), Steve Dyck (SSX, NBA Street, Halo 4, Halo 5). They are known to work closely with each other, so it is expected to gain pace pretty quick.
Their first game is possibly a few years away according to Hook, but it will not be a live-service game. Hook is experienced with live-service titels like Xbox Live and Destiny, and he says it would be too heavy for the studio to sustain at its current state. Studio aims to create small budget games that are still providing good quality. Jar of Sparks is already partnered with NetEase, the Chinese company known for many Chinese versions of major titles, so it seems like a good sign about the team’s potential.
