Every year, the staple activity of most people and companies alike is making year’s flashback lists. It is both fun and interesting to see, and Valve also grants us the courtesy of listing the biggest Steam games throughout 2021.
Strangely, one of the biggest hits in this list was Valheim. This indie title from Iron Gate actually made it to “platinum section” of Steam’s 100 top-selling games by gross revenue. To make it clearer, let us mention that the list has games like CSGO, PUBG, Dota 2, GTA V, Rainbow Six: Siege and Apex Legends. No joke at all.
Valheim has earned its place in this list and also achieved a peak player count over 200k during 2021. The real number is significantly beyond this, as SteamDB records that the game hit a peak of just over half a million concurrent players back in February.
Another hit is obviously Amazon Games’ MMORPG title New World. While it lost a lot of players after a while due to ongoing issues, it also made its way into same three platinum categories and found 913,634 peak players in October. Other titles with similar successes are Dead By Daylight, Age of Empires IV, Farming Simulator 22, Forza Horizon 5 and Resident Evil Village (or should we just mention Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters rather than the game itself?).
Last but not least, there are some Early Access titles that spent some serious time about development and came a long way since they hit the ground. Subnautica: Below Zero, Hell Let Loose, Totally Accurate Battle Simulator and GTFO are the remarkable mentions of this list.
